AMON AMARTH, MOONSORROW, INSOMNIUM To Perform At FINNISH METAL EXPO
November 30, 2006A lot has happened since the first Finnish Metal Expo in January 2005. Finnish metal has really gone where no one ever thought it would go, both domestically and internationally. Top of the charts, gold records and headline tours. Hell, the Finns even won the Eurovision Song Contest. Well, that's almost metal.
The third annual Finnish Metal Expo once again offers insight to the current state of Finnish metal music. The two previous years have proven that there is great interest in such an event. The location of Cable Factory has been filled to the rim with metal enthusiasts, with about 5,000 visitors attending each year seeking out the latest in band, media, event and merchandise offerings.
The dates for the 2007 event are set for February 16-17. A new addition for this year's event is a room reserved solely for the purpose of instrument clinics. The clinics frequented by the contemporary axemen and batterists have been hugely popular, therefore the organizers have added a second clinic stage to meet the demand. Again, there are more than 50 exhibitors showcasing their latest and all exhibition stands have been reserved. A list of exhibitors can be viewed at www.fme.fi.
A crucial part of the Finnish Metal Expo are of course the live shows, this time provided by the likes of AMON AMARTH (Sweden),BROTHER FIRETRIBE, SUBURBAN TRIBE, MOONSORROW, TURMION KÄTILÖT, INSOMNIUM, MISERY INC., BEFORE THE DAWN, CYAN VELVET PROJECT, TACERE and APRIL. There are several more artists to be added to the bill. A large number of musicians will also be showcasing their talent and equipment on the two clinic stages.
On Friday the 16th of February, the Finnish metal media will award their favorites as well as the crowd pleasers at the Finnish Metal Awards. A comprehensive jury consisting of the most relevant and influential metal medias in the country, has chosen nominees for six categories of which the fans will vote the winners.
Finnish Metal Expo is a consumer expo, which has been appropriately dubbed "the long-hair Disneyland." At the same time, it is a gathering of the metal industry people from Finland and abroad. International Metal Meeting, the professional meeting within the Finnish Metal Expo, has established itself as a major annual get-together for the metal music industry.
But besides and in addition to all this, Finnish Metal Expo is first and foremost a good party, a place to let your hair hang down.
Finnish Metal Expo will kick off on Thursday, February 15 at the Tavastia Club when TAROT takes the stage. Support at the show will come from up-and-coming '80s-style metallers LEVERAGE.
Tickets for Finnish Metal Expo are now on sale through Tiketti (www.tiketti.fi) and Lippupalvelu (www.lippupalvelu.fi). One-day tickets are available for 20 euros each for Friday and 22 euros each for Saturday. FME is an all-ages event.
